Feeding your Bichon Frise

All of our Bichons Frises have been raised in our home in Oregon on dry grain free dog food. Occasionally we will mix a little of the canned flavors on the dry to add a little variety, but the kibble is really the best for their teeth, and the easiest way for you to measure and keep them from gaining too much weight as they age. We also give them limited amounts of lean beef, and fish. Plus safe cooked vegetables like carrots, green beans, garbonzo beans and peas. We really like the “Taste of the Wild” dry kibble varieties for our puppies and our adults.  Here is a link to the  Taste of the Wild website in case you would like to check out the many varieties of grain free foods they have to offer.

The  Bichon Frise Club of America, has an excellent section on feeding your Bichon from age 10 weeks and up. There are many good brands of food out there, some dogs adapt to certain formulas better than others. You can usually tell the better brands by the price, and most of the better brands are not sold in the regular grocery stores. This usually applies to dog treats as well. We are not trying to sell you “Taste of the Wild” foods, but rather we are just letting you know that it is one of the quality foods that our dogs have done well on.

If you have an interest in other food options like recipes for preparing your own healthy foods for your dog , there are several promoters out there. To find out more  click here.

A long with a high quality food, we recommend a good vitamin supplement. Our dogs are all currently taking NuVet Plus for dogs.
